Gel vs acrylic nails: which should you choose?
Gel vs acrylic nails: here is the honest difference, so you walk in knowing what you want.
Gel vs acrylic
Overlay or extensions?
An overlay is gel or acrylic applied onto your natural nail to strengthen it, without adding length. Tips are used when you want extra length. So the first question is not gel or acrylic, it is: do you want added length?
Choose gel if…
You want a natural-looking, flexible nail with a glossy finish. Gel overlays, French gel and gel ombre are popular for a polished, low-maintenance look.
Choose acrylic if…
You want length, maximum strength or a bold shape, or you are hard on your hands. Acrylic tips and overlays are built to last, and fills keep them looking fresh.

Gel vs acrylic: your questions
Which is better, gel or acrylic nails?
Neither is better for everyone. Gel is flexible, glossy and feels natural. Acrylic is stronger and better for added length. The right choice depends on your lifestyle and the look you want.
What is a gel overlay?
A gel overlay is gel applied over your natural nail to strengthen it and add a glossy, chip-resistant finish, without adding length. A gel overlay at Women's Pride is R320.
Is gel better for your natural nails than acrylic?
Gel is generally considered gentler and more flexible, and it feels lighter. Whichever you choose, the biggest risk to your natural nails is peeling the product off, so always book a soak-off.
Can I get extra length with gel?
For added length we recommend acrylic tips, which start at R420. A gel or acrylic overlay keeps your natural length.
How long does each last?
Both are usually refreshed every two to three weeks as your nail grows. We offer 2 week and 3 week acrylic fills.
